This analeptic medicine is used to treat shift work disorder, obstructive sleep apnea, and narcolepsy. It functions by modifying the brain's neurotransmitters. Take this drug by mouth for narcolepsy as prescribed by your doctor, often once daily in the morning, with or without meal. The total daily amount of modafinil may also be split between a morning and a noon dose, if your doctor instructs you to do so.

Unless your doctor instructs you to stop, continue your existing treatment (such as the CPAP machine or oral device). There are situations when taking certain medications with certain foods and other medications is not safe. If you miss a dosage, take it as soon as you remember. If your next dose is almost due, omit the missed dose and resume taking your medication at the regular time. Never take additional dosages or two doses at once. Never reduce or stop this medication's dosage. Consult your doctor.
