The University of Birmingham School of Engineering Teaching and Learning Centre in the UK offers you an exciting opportunity to undertake a 2-year MSc by Research or 3-year Ph.D. in Technology Enhanced Learning for Industrial 4.0 Engineering Education. We offer a Ph.D. and EPSRC scholarship to researchers starting in September 2018. For home students £14500 stipend and complete tuition fees per annum for three years. For overseas students, the Scholarship covers the tuition fees. In addition, there are opportunities to receive up to £1500 additional income by providing lab demonstrations and teaching assistance.
Engineering Education is undergoing vast changes due to the upcoming Industrial Revolution - Industry 4.0. This will require Engineers with new skills sets in design practice, process and thinking applied to emerging technologies which include virtual and augmented reality, machine learning, automation, robotics and model-based design. To provide these skill sets, Education must be personalised, digital, collaborative and entirely relevant to industry and society needs.
Specifically, we are looking for applicants from an undergraduate Engineering, Education or Computing background who is interested in the development and evaluation of systems and technologies in the areas of Model-based design and simulation, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Collaboration, Automation and Robotics, Machine Learning and Big Data. The systems and technologies you research will support several engineering disciplines including Civil, Computer, Construction, Electrical, Green, Sustainability, Industrial, Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering. There is a mixture of advancing the understanding and knowledge of the research fields associated with engineering technologies, and applying systems engineering techniques to capture engineering education requirements and goals. Projects will involve collaboration and input from industry stakeholders.
